About Us

The Ministry of Human Resource Development has launched a major and unique initiative of online professional development of 1.5 million higher education faculty using the MOOCs platform SWAYAM. In the first phase, 75 discipline-specific National Resource Centres have been identified which are tasked to prepare online training material with focus on latest developments in the discipline, new & emerging trends, pedagogical improvements and methodologies for transacting revised curriculum.

Message From Vice Chancellor

I am deeply indebted to the department of Higher Education, MHRD, Government of India for recognising UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Karnatak University, Dharwad as a National Resource Centre for providing Online Refresher Courses to the in-service teachers in Higher Education in the subject of Sociology under the SWAYAM portal.

Karnatak University being the second oldest in the state of Karnataka is proud that its UGC-HRDC has this recognition of NRC in Sociology. Our department of Sociology is robust and I am sure it will do a good job in producing qualitative, authentic and intellectually insightful videos to strengthen the discipline of sociology through their online refresher course. I am sure this will breathe in freshness and update the knowledge of teachers in the various areas of Sociology and help them to become better teachers. I wish the UGC-HRDC of Karnatak University, Dharwad all success in its new engagements with NRC and look forward to the strengthening of our department of Sociology in Karnatak University through this endeavour. .

My dear participants, I am happy that the Department of Higher Education, MHRD has recognised our UGC-Human Resource Development Centre as a National Resource Centre to run Online Refresher Courses for inservice teachers in Higher Education using SWAYAM platform.

Our modules for Sociology are prepared by well experienced senior professors of Sociology coming from all over the country. This will help you to upgrade your knowledge, specialisation and to develop insights in the discipline of Sociology.

Sociology has a lot to offer both to be a good citizen and a scientist to understand human behaviour within a society. Thus this a full-fledged course that helps you to understand your society better.
